How NailIt pricing works
Every NailIt estimate is a materials-only cost range for doing the project yourself. Here is exactly how we build it and what the numbers mean.
What the estimate includes
NailIt estimates cover the materials and consumables a typical DIY homeowner buys to complete a project — lumber, hardware, paint, adhesives, fixtures, and the small parts in between. They are based on 2026 U.S. retail pricing from major home-improvement and online retailers.
What it does not include
- Labor. You supply the work, so there is no contractor labor charge in the number.
- Permits, delivery, and tool rental unless the project page calls them out.
- Regional and brand swings. Prices move with your ZIP code, store, and brand choice.
Low / Average / High
The three figures reflect the realistic spread for the same project: Low is budget materials on sale, Average is the typical mid-grade basket, and High is premium materials or a larger-than-typical scope.
How the numbers are generated
Estimates are generated by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) prompted to price a standard DIY scope from current retail material costs, then screened for DIY-fit (see our editorial policy). They are planning estimates, not quotes — always confirm live prices before you buy. For your exact project, the free AI estimator tailors the breakdown to your inputs.
